Himachal has been repeatedly attacked by Mamud from Ghazni in 11th century, Tughlaq in 14th century, Mughals in 16th century. And in 1815, the Tagores took the help of the British to chase away the Gorkhas from Nepal. The British started to build a summer retreat in the Shimla Hills by deception. By the treaty of 1846, the south-west of the state was occupied by the British. In 1864, the summer capital of the British was located at Shimla Hills. And the Dalai Lama and his mission who came from Lhasa and his mission, who received refuge in India after Tibet was occupied by China, built a colony in Dharamshala Hills of Himachal in October 1959.
